I’ve been making diy lotions and body butters for over a year now. Mostly because of my desire to remove toxic chemicals from my home and what I allow into my body. The body butters are usually made with coconut oil, but has one of the longest absorption rates. I find that after a shower it works best with my skin, or if I put it on at night before bed it has time to absorb into my skin. But the greasiness hasn’t been my favorite.
I bought several ingredients this past week on Amazon to try some new lotion recipes. I found a promising one Here and Here. I adapted it by adding about the same amount of Vitamin C Serum as Vitamin E oil. Also, I made a batch without the coconut oil and instead used sweet almond oil because I have really dry skin and it’s a good oil for those of us with dry skin.

In my first batch I added the following essential oils and the peppermint makes it feel refreshing!
- 2 drops of Geranium
- 4 drops of Bergamot
- 4 drops of Cedarwood
- 4 drops of Patchouli
- 6 drops of Peppermint
In my second batch, I added these essential oils for a more calming scent combination:
- 16 drops lavender
- 3 drops Geranium
- 4 drops Bergamot

It is fast absorbing and while there is a touch of oiliness on the skin, it’s much improved from what I have been making. There is no water which means a preservative isn’t necessary, so I’m thinking this recipe is a winner! And what’s best about it is that it truly is pump-able, unlike the body butters. I’m saving this recipe because I’ll be using it again! I imagine that you can add any type of liquid oil such as avocado oil, grape seed and others, or a combination of them.

I noticed that there are a few people already following, but I believe they are also wordpress bloggers. Give me some time and I’ll become a pro and let you know! 🙂
